Sovereign Sister: 9 Ways To Support Your Plant-Based Feminine Body – Session 1

Supporting your body’s needs and knowing how to balance your nutrients, minerals and energetics for optimum health.

My initial journey into a vegan life began long before the word vegan was popular. I was, at first, fascinated with the idea of consuming a balanced diet without having to depend on meat for “protein”. Back then in order to successfully become vegan, protein substitutes were of utmost importance. I transitioned, nonetheless, to a vegan life very easily with the exception of the nagging need to nibble on cheese. The amazing benefits included; decreased weight, less mucus, a lighter feeling that translates into physical agility, and low levels of menstrual pain and cramping. Surprisingly I committed to eating purely plant based because menstrual pain was the hardest experience for me as I transitioned into the journey of womanhood. Once I discovered the extreme befits of transitioning to a plant-based life I went into plant based

Night Visions of a Remedy

Many healing foods have come to me as an aid for my relatives or friends who were, from one time or another, stuck in disease, unhealthy lifestyles or addictions. The incredible message in most dreams is that they mainly come to you for your own benefit.

In one of my most significant night visions I walked down a dusty, rocky road along the bushy fence of a wooden blue home in what is called Westerhall, St. Davids which is located in Grenada. I knew I was close to Petit Bacaye where my grand aunt Alice lived decades ago. Back then she served us many cups of hot cocoa and fresh fish fried in coconut oil. As the night vision unfolds I walk gazing into the kitchen window of the home. My eyes catch an elderly woman stirring a huge pot. Her wise wrinkled stare holding my gaze as she places bush medicine into the pot. She silently beckoned to me, “come child, you need to drink this bush”. I make a wordless inquiry, “what is it?” And she answers Blessed Thistle, come… learn it and teach them” I walked into her smokey smelling abode feeling safe and open.

That visitation came at the peak of pain and discomfort, over long nights and missed colleges courses. While I looked for the blessed thistle I studied the herb closely and started consuming it in small amounts. In combination with a few other herbs, a strict raw diet, and consistent meditation and breath work my discomfort and pain subcided and yhe source of the pain was rectified.

Herb Foods For Your Medicine Chest

Blessed Thistle:

CAUTION: don’t take if allergic to aster family plants (burdock, chamomile, dandelion, arnica)

Blessed Thistle: Specifically this herb is excellent for young girls transitioning into menstruation as it supports them by easing inflammation. This her also increases circulation so it ensures less clotting and purifies the blood at the same time. It’s active chemical is Cncin, and its bitterness actives digestive activity.

USES:

  • For its Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Excellent for female disorders
  • For mothers it’s a galactogouge which means it increases milk production
  • Increases stomach secretions (enzymes, electrolytes, mucin ) and as a result boosts appetite (excellent for elders or those who have a loss of appetite)

Other uses:

  • Liver support
  • Increase bile production

Mothersworts: Lianaris Cardiaca
Her Latin name means the lionhearted one; Lianaris Cardiaca this is indicative of her effect in the bodyith pale pink flowers, this bitter pungent and drying herb can be used in various forms. When I used it I consumed it mostly in tincture form. It is supportive for menstruation, and it definitely eases tension and relaxes you because it is a gentle sedative and muscle relaxant. This was key to the support it gave me in controlling and eliminating pms and menstrual pain. Mother contains alkaloids that ease contractions and muscle spasms in the uterus. Flavonoids aid with pain and discomfort due to its anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Triterpines, a chemical component of this herb works as a pain reliever and helps to support cardiovascular function, and blood circulation. The herbs which support blood circulation tend to support females during their different stages of the menstrual cycle (menstruation, ovulation, follicular, and luteal phases ).

CAUTION: *excessive use of motherwort may interfere with other cardiovascular treatments (this is because it is also a cardiovascular tonic). A tonic herb food is excellent for regularly, daily use over a long period of time, in order to support the body to stay in balanced. Avoid during pregnancy since this herb stimulates the uterus so well.

Energetics

  • invokes openness, acceptance, and peace
  • protective maternal grace, easing the mind, soothing the womb
  • strengthening, letting the heart feel safe strong

Physical

  1. Nourishes and tightens the reproductive system, due to the alkaloids it contains. These have an antispasmodic effect and as a result eases uterine contractions. ( This was one of the main reasons I chose to use this herb because of its ability to ease muscle contraction, which was one of my biggest issues when dealing with menstrual pain)
  2. Eases the tense, and lethargic feeling (b/c relaxing nervine, an antispasmodic )

Forms:

  • essence
  • tincture
  • tea
  • vaginal steam

Other uses:

  • pungent and bitter so it can be used as a digestive stimulant
  • also as a cardiovascular tonic ( tonics one certain muscles)

Pau D’ Arco:

This cleansing herb food is bitter is exceptional for

CAUTION:

Maca Root: Since it is a root its high carb yet contains lots of copper, vitamin C, and potassium

Oatstraw: Avena Sativa
Some of us are allowing fear into our lives, and granted 2020’s timeline of events has been utter confusion. We have to watch the stress levels that we experience in our lives because it can lead to depression. Depression can come on due to various causes. We will explore more of the root and healthy solutions in our upcoming Nourish Me November Series, which will be dedicated to one specific herb and how it supports you.

This is one of my favorite food medicines because it strengthens and tonifies the nervous system and supports the endocrine system. Oatstraw also supports the system by improving memory, clarity, conscious dreams, bone density, thinking, calm and coordination. Mineral rich nerve builder that all ages can indulge and enjoy.

Ashwagandha:
This root naturally supports the body in adapting to stress and specifically reduces the stress steroid hormone called cortisol. Improves mood and reduces anxiety. It is also used world wide and is very popular for lengthening lifespan. Increases strength. Promotes sexual function specifically as it helps with male fertility as we mentioned last strong… (I mention it here today to drive home a point, the key is THE MAN)

Yarrow: Achillea millefolium
Bleeding is a common symptom of uterine fibroids, numerous antihemorrhagic herbs are used in botanical medicine protocols. Yarrow dried plant infusion is perhaps one of the most widely used uterine antihemorrhagics, reliably reducing acute uterine bleeding, but conversely promoting menstrual flow when suppressed. It has been used since ancient times as a styptic. Either dry or fresh plant can be used as a tea or tincture. Many herbalists believe that yarrow herb taken as tea is more quickly effective for stopping acute uterine bleeding than other preparations.

Shepherd’s purse: Shepherd’s purse (fresh only) has been used traditionally as a uterine antihemorrhagic. Extracts of shepherd’s purse have a hemostyptic action, l Many modern Western herbalists believe that it is imperative to prepare Shepherd’s purse from fresh, not dry, plant material.

Homeschooling, Nation-building and Education.

You are probably wondering what does Homeschooling, Nation-building, and Education have in common. Is it safe to say you are also probably considering how these fit into this month’s focus? At the core of these ideals is the culture that is maintained by the woman (the mother). The mother, who receives instruction and direction, passes on the family’s culture to the youth (historical and ancestral lineage). She understands the power of the youth and prepares them to hold that role. Therefore, a nation can only rise as high as its women. They are responsible for imparting that culture passed down to them by the man. The man holds the vision and passes this standard onto the woman who then raises the youth to be the evolution of that culture. They are inherently ambassadors of the culture that is imparted and instilled in them.

Why Is Culture At The Core?

Culture is our way of life and encompasses everything a nation does. Let us consider Kwame Agyei Akoto in his second edition of Nation-building, he says that “culture defines the parameters within which a people act” and it “serves to define the boundaries of thought and behavior that ensure the existence and survival of the nation” That is what a mother instills by the very act of homeschooling. Therefore, we have to recognize that homeschooling is a resistance to the status quo. This considered, homeschooling is therefore an initiating tactic as we all strive to dismantle the stronghold that secular world standards and views have on the family. Chief Yuya author of The Anu Way states that “the culture and habits we invest in are our silent statement. So yes can we more vigilantly and warrior like without words but purely based on movement and action?

Nation-building requires a basis, family.

It is our culture that perpetuates our identifiable compendium of codes and customs. Culture dictates what is allowed and what is not. Therefore, a culture cannot survive if there are no ethics and regulations. These help to ensure that the very spirit of that culture is not violated. In this way we see how culture lets us know what is important to sustain and ensure our survival as a group.

Whole families are requisite for home-schooling to be effective, and cannot be effective if attempted by single parents. The masculine and feminine principles must be in place to ensure the mission statement for the family drives the goals that the woman creates for the children. It is holistic, women will not be clear on what the homeschool goal is if the cultural aspect and values are not there. That aspect dictates what you teach and how you teach. Education will always be a reflection of the nation or community that you function within.

When nation-building, the education of the youth and the adults alike is a critical aspect that affects the following

“Education is the ritualized and reaffirmation of national identity” K. A Akoto

5 Ways To Overcome Type 2 Diabetes with Robin Wong

In this episode our guest Robin Wong explores 5 Ways to Overcome Type 2 Diabetes. We know you will enjoy this “healthful”, informative, and mind-expanding episode. We are starting off the Month of May with excitement around the topics that mean the most to you and your family. Sovereign Eats is your resource for the royal way to wellness and good food, we thought it fitting to tackle the basics of diabetes. Diabetes is one of the most rampant diseases amongst people of all ages.

Those who are most at risk are exposed to the following possible effects:

  • Heart Disease
  • Premature death
  • Blindness
  • Kidney failure
  • Amputations
  • Blindness
  • Frailty
  • Fractures
  • Depression
  • Cognitive decline
  • Cognitive impairment which can develop into dementia
  • Blood sugar levels is directly connected to shorter lifespan, with higher risks

In this episode we get to the core of the issue by addressing the following areas during this spirited dialogue that probably deserves a part two.
Here is what we cover:

  • “Healthful” terms explained
  • Some of the misunderstandings about Type 2 Diabetes
  • Robin’s system helps to control the disease using nutrition and health management. Some medications function in different ways. For example, one widely used drug reduces the amount of glucose produced in the liver, yet it also makes muscle tissue absorb more glucose. Meanwhile, another popular one increases the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas. Robin explains in detail how her health management works to the benefit of those who suffer from type 2.
  • The current media portrayal of diabetes as a ‘disease of fat people’ and its stigmatizing affect

After good strong dialogue, we can conclude that the 5 Ways to Overcome Type 2 Diabetes are simpler than you think. These are outlined as mindset, reducing fat content by changing the source of fat because the caloric density of animal based foods affects insulin receptors, shifting to a plant based lifestyle, paying attention to the types of vegan or plant based foods consumed and knowing that exercise isn’t the only factor when controlling type 2 diabetes.

Please explore some of the awesome tools and resources which Robin has provided for you all:

6 Superfoods That Helped Me Transition To A Plant-Based Life Part 2

In our previous post, 3 Reasons I Transitioned To A Plant-based Life Part 1, we explored 3 of my most important motivations for transitioning to a raw plant-based lifestyle. In my transition into a plant-based life, I uncovered many mysteries about herbs used for feminine healing, womb health, and nutritional supplementation. Here is a small but concise listing of each superfood and the value that it can bring to your health and dietary lifestyle. This post only focuses on the superfoods that healed me. Look out for a follow-up podcast and companion blog Nine Herbs to Support Your Feminine Body.

Extensive information, research, and medical documentation on the following superfoods are available for your personal growth and development across the web. I ensure to include more than just their basic healing properties herein. However, you have to do your research on foods since your body may react differently to them. In another food episode, we will talk about different ways to pay attention to your sensitivity to food. That is a clue to the ways the body communicates with you.

RejuveLAC

Made from sprouted and fermented wheat berries, this nutrient-dense, probiotic-rich gut health drink is not made by introducing enzymes as catalysts to initiate the culture and ferment it. The wheat berries, when soaked in filtered water, produce a rich liquid. This liquid contains enzymes that develop the fermentation process.

Rejuvelac aids in supporting the gut, especially for those who are sick, those who consume a limited variety of foods, and those who have issues digesting food properly. The benefits are extensive. The nutrients in this simple drink are proteins, carbohydrates, vitamin C, vitamin E, Vitamin B complex, phosphates, Lactobacillus, and Saccharomyces, and Aspergillus oryzae ( probiotic enzymes may increase immunity).

Benefits of Rejuvelac:

  • Provides friendly Lacto-bacteria into the gastrointestinal tract
  • High levels of enzymes help to re-energize the body by making nutrients available
  • Aids removal of toxins and excess undigested waste material
  • Supports the gut as a digestive aid
  • Increases the absorption of nutrients leading to a healthy gut-brain connection
  • Encourages regular bowel movements

Energy Soup

Energy Soup is a combination of Rejuvelac, lemon juice, dulse flakes, and sunflower sprouts, with some avocado occasionally. No seasoning, salt, or pepper is used in this food medicine because it aids in blood building, lymphatic cleansing, and rebuilding and supporting a nutrient deficient body.

Chlorophyll

Supplement daily with an ounce of chlorophyll in water. Chlorophyll is a chemical formed in chloroplast cells of green plants. It is similar in chemical structure to hemin; the part of hemoglobin that carries oxygen in our blood. The one difference is that chlorophyll bonds are connected by magnesium while hemin is bonded by iron.

So why take it? Here is the truth, Chlorophyll acts as a general antiseptic. It also supports the building of blood, healing wounds, and also supporting tissue cell regrowth. Chlorophyll’s blood-building properties come from its ability to convert to heme inside of the body. However, it must make it through the gut without being denatured and then make it to the bloodstream. In the bloodstream, it needs specific enzymes to help it become heme. Some also assert that it is a good source of magnesium, so this is one reason I suggest using it during painful periods. During painful bleeding, cramping can cause moments of semi-paralysis and weakened leg muscles. The magnesium acts as a muscle relaxant and offers cramp relief.

Life-saving facts about Chlorophyll:

  • During fasting, Chlorophyll will provide an energy boost
  • It helps to flush drug deposits from the blood
  • Neutralizes toxins in the body
  • Neutralizes odor
  • Purifies the liver
  • Improves blood glucose levels
  • Rebuilds the bloodstream
  • Restricts growth of unfriendly bacteria
  • Used both internally and externally

Chlorella

This algae is a single-celled, abundant source of chlorophyll and is in itself about 58% protein. It also contains carbs, B vitamins, c vitamins, e vitamins, trace minerals, and amino acids. Chlorella is indeed a nutrient-dense complete food while also functioning as a blood cleanser. Research also shows that it can protect against radiation because it contains RNA and DNA. It is highly recommended for menstruating women because the chlorophyll converts to heme which supports its blood-building properties.

Wheatgrass

This grass is very high in oxygen, like all green plants that contain chlorophyll. It supports the brain to function optimally and was another nutrient-dense food introduced and popularized by Dr. Ann Wigmore. This nutrient-dense grass contains vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. Dr. Wigmore taught that 1 pound of wheatgrass would be equivalent in nutritional value to 25 pounds of high-quality vegetables.

How it supported my system

Wigmore introduced wheatgrass as a therapy for those trying to eliminate cancerous growths and other disorders. The healing components go right back to chlorophyll and its similarity to hemoglobin. The function of wheatgrass is mainly due to its similarity in function as hemoglobin. At the center of a chlorophyll molecule is magnesium. Wheatgrass can support those with anemia, and research shows that it can rebuild blood count to normal after a few days of consuming the juice. Wheatgrass shots have become quite popular for this reason and are ideal for those who follow a plant-based diet and have low iron levels.

3 Reasons I Transitioned To A Plant-Based Life

An image of creator of Sovereign Eats

The reasons I transitioned to a plant-based life sparked my health journey. Allow me to reintroduce myself, I am Moksha , health food and wellness coach. I attribute my knowledge and passion for food as medicine, to my life experiences, and those who have taught me the healing power of food. My passion is to share and impart knowledge and wisdom of healing food, with an unwavering mission. This mission is to support families and women who need to attain optimum health. Sovereign Eats focuses on the woman and I take a keen interest in the ANU wombmyn.

Unbridled Power

So sisters, this week’s podcast is for the wombmyn, that female energy, the energy of the womb. In Yoruba culture the energy of Oduduwa (Iya agbe- mother who receives) is related to the womb and is aligned to the timing, cycles and order of the earth. This energy or entity is feminine and is therefore naturally receptive. As a woman my femininity too makes me highly receptive. It is a very wise, therefore, to ensure our surroundings, the music we listen to, and the things we consume are of the highest quality. Our receptivity is both our power and can be the path toward our own weaknesses, mentally , spiritually and eventually physically. Whether you are an Iya, a sister, a daughter, a grandma or a aunty please follow this journey. I know it will change your life, it changed mine.

Pain Releases Power

My personal health journey to transition to a plant-based lifestyle began at the age of 14 on the island of Grenada. Growing up in the Caribbean, I naturally gravitated to nutrient rich foods with vibrant colors, intriguing textures and bright tastes. Immersing in nutrition courses and cooking classes,  set the stage for my deep love for Food Alchemy. I  recognized the remarkable power to heal was a pathway to transform the body.  A personal healing experience in my mid teens led to  the discovery of the healing power of plant based food. A plant based diet has a stark contrast to Grenada’s more culturally prevalent diet of meats, dairy, and starch-rich root vegetables. Despite the juxtaposition of nature versus nurture, I successfully transitioned into a plant based lifestyle at 16. This was the pivotal moment of my unwavering commitment to use food as a healing modality.

What prompted this shift in diet was my new knowledge but once I applied this dietary lifestyle its wisdom revealed itself to me. You see, as a young girl when I experienced menarche, I also experienced a world of pain. With the onset of menstruation I could expect severe cramps in my abdominal, pelvic and upper thigh area. The pain in my thighs were sometimes so severe that I, at times, had periods of paralysis. I would then drag myself across the floor to the restroom.

This went on for some time, however the change in my diet also changed the way I experienced menstruation. The less diary and meats I consumed the easier the experience became. In weeks my body became pain-free and my pain subsided. My cold sweating seized, my bloating and pelvic pains eased but even then I didn’t realize it was the change in my food consumption.

Power Directed

Once I relinquished my omnivorous diet for a vegan lifestyle, I slowly came to the realization; my improvement was attributed to a transition to a pant-based lifestyle. As I maintained the vegan lifestyle my reliance on pain prescription reduced. At that time, and at such a young age I was dependent on a specific painkiller ( almost addicted ) which I mention in my podcast. I never realized that this particular drug was a carcinogen, nor that it had the potential to harm my reproductive organs, amongst other things.

Years later my arrival in the U.S signaled another breakthrough, when I was introduced to a raw vegan lifestyle. This added even more layers to my knowledge. It was supported by my interactions with a few raw vegan families, as well as raw and cooked vegan food coaches and chefs, and wholistic and Ayurvedic practitioners. They imparted knowledge and increased my understanding of healing foods and its positive effects on the body.

Raw Food Healing

This discovery of food’s healing properties continued with a raw vegan family who supported my need to evolve my journey toward optimum health. The strength, bone density and cognitive agility of that family inspired me to further pursue a 100% raw vegan diet. This challenge put my body through a battle with additional womb issues and immense pain. This marked another turning point in my health and wellness journey. Although at that time the transition to a raw vegan lifestyle was in full swing, my body needed even more of a strict regiment to cleanse and clear itself of womb blockages and buildup.

The detox protocol, Reset Your Mind, came on the heels of this battle with toxic buildup, fatigue, small growths in the uterus. These caused severe pain and difficulty functioning from day to day. By then the raw vegan lifestyle change began to starve the growths. The consumption of healing foods pushed infection out of my system. As a result this formed cysts causing inflammation throughout my body leading to serious pain. Food is medicine. A liquid detox regiment, Reset Your Mind, which I developed, moved toxic waste out of my bloodstream and system. It ultimately starved the cysts. Yet that was not the only thing that offered me healing. The regimen that I used also included the powerful healing drink Rejuvelac, daily bowls of Energy soup, wheatgrass and chlorophyll shots and juiced grapes. (Check out Part. 2 of this series to get the scoop on all of these foods)

Waters Wonder

Waters wonder is not just in its physical attributes but also in its energetics. When last have you considered how truly important water is to our survival, and our healing, both physically and spiritually. There are so many things water does for our body that we do not consider. Water is:

  • A vital nutrient to the life of every cell, and acts first as a building material It.
  • It regulates our internal body temperature during sweating and respiration
  • The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolized and transported by water in the bloodstream;
  • It assists in flushing waste mainly through urination
  • Water acts as a shock absorber for the brain, spinal cord, and the fetus
  • forms saliva
  • lubricates joints

The brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones our are watery: 31%. These facts are all based off of the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Water is such an interesting necessity though because the body can be compared to the planet itself. In this way we can also compare the role water plays in the human body to the role that it plays in the planetary body that we call Onile.

The fact that the planets’ trees also require a considerate amount of water to function correlates to waters function And presence in the lungs. We can also see connections with the waters movement through streams and rivers, similarly water moves through the bloodstream of our body as a transporter.

Water is an interesting essential element that we mostly never consider beyond its ability to quench our thirst. Yet consider its use as a cleanser and as a container. Water represents emotions, chaos, it is soft and yielding, it has a negative polarity, it has memory, and is a container for spiritual energy.

Energetically water has memory which makes it retain imprints. What it retains is dependent on the environment or the stimulus, programming, audio, expression, emotions. Water receives imprints by outside influences such as music, language, sound, energy, and even thought . It has memory this is why it is a holder or container of consciousness.

Anything water comes into contact with, leaves a trace of itself in the water. This is waters energetic ability to receive or absorb energy and or the essence of its environment. This attribute speaks to the feminine energy and a woman’s ability to be receptive, to be a receptacle and or a vessel.

Why do I mention this energetic ability?

Studies show that water is programmable  and its strongest influencer is emotion (energy in motion). Water absorbs and because of this is will help to bind us to feeling and fluidity. It can hold memory therefore, it will act as energy that can be transformed through sound or words. This attribute gives us an opportunity to affirm (pray) over your water before drinking it or serving it to others. Transfer that energy or ase into the water, affirm that it brings you healing, cellular rejuvenation and fluidity. This dynamic ability relates to the importance of self talk and gives us a peek into understanding how sounds and words can affect our emotional function.

A Note To Sisters

To the sisters, I want us to consider this beautiful receptive energetic attribute of water as an attribute that we too possess. You see water is a feminine element, so when we too are in certain environments we leave ourselves open and receptive to various energies. We must be mindful of that in our daily interactions. This idea is also applicable to having multiple partners. What happens is that we leave ourselves vulnerable to multiple imprints, memories or programming of various ideas and ideals of from our past. However you can control this by controlling your encounters with the amount of partners and the type of partners you expose yourself to.

Beautiful ways to charge your temple!

Fortified Family: Building the Immune System

During this time we have to rely on the healing power of good character, righteousness, balance and Family. In addition we must draw on the earths gifts of healing, from plant medicine. Let’s talk about supports to help you if you have the “coughs”,  supports to help you with the flu and antiviral food medicine that will fortify you and your family. Please understand that I only share knowledge to support you. You have to do the rest to gain wisdom and understanding about these herb foods that I share with you.

Let us acknowledge the healing food medicine that Onile offers us through the herbs that we talk about each strong. The Yoruba term for the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of  the earth is Onile. She houses attributes such as transformation, true life struggle, life purpose and connecting with the All. Earth grounds us yet it connects us to all that is around us, not just our humanity. Onile helps us to become devoid of our egoic self, identity and personality.

Fear weakens you

These days the most ominous thing seems to be… the cough. You get on line in public, or you enter into a space and all you need to hear is one good cough and your whole body starts seizing out of fear. You may even have a cough and begin to feel despondent, worry, and anxiety, these are byproducts of fear.  Of course some of it is rational because fear does have a function. It doesn’t have to be your source of panic though.

Fear weakens you, and is the beginning of our downfall. This is where the grounding and reassurance of Onile comes in. Onile provides endless opportunities for you to build your immune system over time with antivirals and immune-modulators. If you are prepared then fear is not relevant. Do the knowledge and be prepared, Function over Fear!

Anti-Viral Supports

Herbal anti- virals specifically modulate the immune system function and some of the following herb foods do just that. You can use them directly to inhibit viruses or indirectly to support immune system function or to address symptoms.

Mucus

An excellent herb that serves as an expectorant for coughs and mucus buildup, is Mullein. If you are in need of support for long term lung health this is the herb for you. Yet it is only for short term flu-like symptoms. Mucus buildup in the lungs can be moved by using a mullein poultice applied to the chest, this also reduces the thickness of the mucus allowing it to be expelled.

Coughs

Coughs require demulcent herbs which soothe painfully dry tissue, because the coughing has dried out the tissue. These herbs help to expel mucus, irritants and or liquids from the lungs.

Violet

Coughs with expectoration can be supported with the amazing Violet herb, as a tea or a tincture. This herb is excellent for the lymphatic system. It is very cooling and clears heat from the body and reduces a fever. If you have chills do not use it because it is very cooling. Violet support sore throats, Bronchitis, asthma and other lung issues. Violets are excellent for Emotional support of heartbreak, anger and grief because of its gentle nurturing energetics.

Caution: Violet should only be purchased from a reputable apothecary or distributor. Many offer very poor quality violet so be vigilant.

Plantain

A additional herb food that is excellent for coughs is plantain. Not the fruit but the herb.  This can be used to soothe a dry cough and to ease the sensation that you get from painful tissue caused by coughing and irritation. Plantain releives the dryness and irritation while moistening the lungs. Plantain is also a cooling herb plantain that is nutritious and edible, containing calcium, and high amounts of vitamins A, C, and K.

Plantain is an ally herb to those who have chronic lung or breathing issues. It is an expectorant and helps expel mucus from the lungs, bronchi and trachea. This can be a herb you use for viral or flu related coughs caused by allergens. So those of us who suffer through Spring and Summer try this. If you have someone afflicted with the symptoms of this virus that is plaguing many now, this herb can be added to your survival kit.

FLU-like Symptoms

Now in case of a flu you can support your system with a few things like Yarrow, Elderberry and Echinacea. If you know anything about me you know that I have been using Elder for about 6 years now without fail. It is hands down the most potent immune modulator and fever “reliever” I know. Immune modulators regulate the immune system and inhibit the replication of viruses. You can use them the prevent or revolver from flu or. Flu like symptoms.

There is a warning, elder berry seeds contain glycosides which when consumes raw can cause nausea. If you have a autoimmune disease use a yarrow elixir or tonic instead.

Yarrow

Yarrow on the other hand eases sinus congestion, soar throat and is very supportive but you have to use it at the first sign of any infection because it is a preventative. If you are overheating Yarrow relieves heat symptoms.

Echinacea

Echinacea while it is an old herb food that you have probably been using for years now,  but its good to know what it actually does for your system. It actually alleviates colds and also boosts immune functions.

Mint

Let’s take something as simple as mint it’s so delicious when used fresh but we underestimate it. It can take you through fever and stomach issues because it is anti microbial.

Mallow

Mallow is another such plant which is less popular but a demulcent or gel-like so this means it hydrates the mucus membranes. The thick slippery attributes can help to soothe your throat. Now here’s the most interesting thing if you sit mallow herb in cold water it becomes most gel-like. In hot water it isn’t as slippery. This herb can be added to food such as cooked quinoa or bulgar making it easier to consume for its supportive attributes..

Fortified Family Remedies:

Fortifying tea blend

I like the tea blend of elderberry, yarrow and mint. Boil the elderberry first then steep for 20 minutes on low then add your yarrow and mint. Steep for another 10 minutes and then strai and drink. If you add ginger to this you can make it into a cool summer drink.

Mucus Cleanse

Mullein since it is a excellent supportive herb for the lungs can be combined with Yarrow to make a steam that will release mucus while soothing the lungs and breathing pathways.

Plantain Poultice

A poultice is used directly on the skin , it is a crushed paste of pulp. This is evenly smeared (At 1 inch thickness) across the chest area of the individual. Use a piece of gauze or even wide bands of linen cloth to secure the poultice in place. Whole leaves can be used. A poultice can be made with fresh herbs (boiled in a little water) or fresh herb nothing else.

Hot Poultice: Has a healing muscle relaxant effect and can increase circulation

Cool Poultice: Has a soothing and of course cooling effect

Dry Herb Poultice

  • Gather the dried herb you need
  • Add it to a pot with small amount of water to moisten the herb (if you want a cold outline let it cool before applying, a hot poultice must be made and tested so it does not scald the skin)
  • In a motor and pestle, work the herb into a paste
  • Spread the pulp mix across targeted area
  • Wrap the muslin or linen over the area (use plastic Wrap over this, it keeps the juices in contact with the target area)

Fresh Herb Poultice

  • Gather the fresh herb you need
  • Add it to a mortar and pestle and work the herb into a paste
  • Spread the pulp mix across targeted area

So, You Think You Don’t Need To Detox?

When we think about detox we primarily preoccupy ourselves with the things that we encounter, consume or even put on our skin that can create levels of toxins in our bodies. However we don’t think about the unsuspecting toxins, we don’t think about the air pollutants and the water pollutants as much. Yet these are important to consider when you think about a detox, especially if you feel like you’re at your optimum health.

However, when you consider pollutants that you are exposed to, especially if you live in a metropolis there is exposure with an overabundance of traffic. Even in an industrial area or industrial city you really need to pay attention to the levels of pollutants that you are exposed to.

Air Pollutants

Air pollutants can cause a variety of different ailments, allergies, damaged cells in the respiratory system, stress on the heart, asthma, emphysema, and the list goes on. When I say air pollutant, I’m not just referring to the smog that we can see. Air pollutants are inclusive of such things as nitrates, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide. Then there’s formaldehyde, and any indoor pollutant, also benzene, which you come into contact with at any gas station.

Introducing regular detoxifying foods, herbs and protocols in your and your family’s regimen supports the body. It helps to build an environment where the organs can function properly and release toxins efficiently.

So let’s talk about the presence of benzene and exposure to the way extended periods can cause harmful effects on the bone marrow. A decrease in red blood cells can automatically cause or lead to amenia. So you want to pay attention to that. If you find yourself anemic, maybe, just maybe, it could be due to overexposure to levels of toxins. Specifically, benzene will decrease the level of red blood cells. Now, benzene can also have side effects on the immune system which opens you up for infection.

Remember, we spoke heavily on the immune system, supporting it and building it knowing fully well that if the immune system is down. It exposes your body by weakening its defensive system.

What of water pollutants?

Some water pollutants to consider are pharmaceuticals, high levels of chlorine, which many of us are aware of, fluoride, pesticides, herbicides, arsenic, and radioactive contaminants as well. Arsenic has been found in many different varieties or brands of bottled water. So pay attention to the brand and the types of water that you consume, do the research, make sure that the levels of arsenic are extremely low.

Another toxin to consider is the presence of pseudo-estrogens and microplastics . Pseudo- estrogens are actually dissolved particles from plastic that can influence or have hormonal effects on the body (both men and women)

Micro-plastics Are small components of plastics that dissolve somewhat into the water that we drink, specifically bottled water. Or into foods or liquids stored in plastic. Regardless of what you do, please pay attention to your sources of water.

Considering all of the pollutants, some of the water pollutants are found in the home… just open up your pipe right now. That water is heavy and filled with fluoride, chlorine and other chemicals that are used to treat water. We hear that chemicals are used to purify water. Yes, Who does not want purified water, but it is also used because those specific chemicals do not damage the piping, used to deliver water. It is not affected by purifying agents but we are.

What they don’t want you to know

What is true is that the system is not willing to spend the amount of money necessary to replace all lead pipes and yes it is not just the pipes in the building. All of the pipes that have been laid down or the delivery system those pipes were soldered with lead when they were first placed down so it’s important to think about your sources of water.

Toxic buildup in the system can lead to some of the aforementioned ailments and diseases that of allergies, damaged cells in the respiratory system, and asthma. It seems that most youth walk around with an asthma pump stashed somewhere. You know that’s not normal. It’s not normal for young children to constantly feel as if they have to exert themselves they would have to run for an asthma pump. There’s something wrong with that.

So, this proves that no matter how healthy of a dietary lifestyle that one has overall, making time to detox is very important because of how many different pollutants, we are exposed to. Relieving the body of toxins is really important, you have to create the space and time to rid the body consistently and detoxing is the most appropriate way to support your system.

Foods that support toxin detox:

Parsley- specifically removes toxic metal Build-up in the blood and tissue

Yellowdock- an excellent blood cleanser, but it builds the iron in the blood.

Reset Your Mind Detox

Reset Your Mind is a detox system designed by Sovereign Eats. It gives the body an opportunity to reset so that organs can begin to function and detox normally, which is the way the body was divinely designed.

What type of protocol is Reset Your Mind?

This system utilizing juice blends (juiced or blender drinks or soups, your choice), soups, teas, and tinctures to cleanse  your organ system. We also include sound healing exercises every morning, meditation exercises and or affirmation (also referred to as prayer). This RESETTING of our mental functioning and understanding about food will push our bodys into a state of reset as well.

Benefits will include:

-Reduced levels of mucus in the system

-Cleared sinuses

-Increased levels of energy

-Elevated states of mental clarity

-Spiritual alignment/balance will manifest itself in different ways

During the juice fast we use juices so that fasting results are more intense and nutrient intake is low on calories. Reset Your Mind detox protocol was designed so that your mind resets your body’s functioning. This is by divine design.

When we talk about a detox we know now that we are creating the environment to allows the body to function the way it was designed to. A body that naturally detoxes, like clockwork. This particular protocol utilizes liquid juice blends, which refers to juiced juices using a juicer or blended drinks or soups. We will also utilize teas and tinctures to cleanse and rebuild the organ systems. This resetting of our mental functioning and understanding about food will help to push the body into a state of reset as well.

Who can benefit from this protocol?

This protocol Reset Your Mind organ cleanse was developed to work well for those who are purpose driven, objective and clear about their goals. It can be used for a period of seven days to 21 days, and can be extended beyond. It can be done most effectively for 6 weeks, focusing on a new organ system each week. But you will also find that when we look at the different organ systems, you will be doing six systems and then resetting every six days, even though you’re working with cycles of seven days. Now, during the juice fast, we use juices and soups so that fasting results are more intense. The fibers are retained in soups encouraging a healthy system of absorption, metabolism and elimination.

A week at a glance:

The protocol’s manual outlines the different juices for the day and the soup blends, including teas and tinctures that you can use to supplement each particular organ system. Using the blended juices, results in high nutrient intake, but low calories. This is because we are not consuming fats and sugars. There are tips and tricks and modifications that can be incorporated. Here is a quick overview:

  • Day 1 – focuses on the organ system that we call the lung and immune system and that includes the long the large intestine the skin and body here, including your nose.
  • Day 2- focuses on the heart system and our heart system incorporates the heart the small intestine, the blood vessels and your tongue. All supported by the teas and tinctures outlined in the manual on the organic cleanse protocol called reset your mind.
  • Day 3 – will be the liver, these organs are the liver, the gallbladder, your tendons and your eyes.
  • Day 4- zooms in on the kidney, which includes the kidney, the urinary bladder, your bones, your ears and law or offices, law or fusses, meaning openings in your body in the lower parts of your body
  • Day 5- the spleen incorporates the spleen, the stomach muscles and your mouth.
  • Day 6- That’s where we will close off the cycle of systems, ( we are not closing off total detox cycle only the first rotation of the systems)
  • On Day 7- repeat any day you choose.

How it works

When you begin your second week, there is a restarting of the cycle of the systems again. Going back to the very first system which was the system of the lung. Then we continue to work through cycles revisiting each one of them up until your last day.

A calendar and or chart of the detox cycles will be provided for you as a visual cue to support you. It’s up to you to incorporate a one week, which is seven divisions, or seven days, or you want to incorporate a 21 day

This protocol helps you to go back through each system. However, another modification that’s outlined in the manual addresses this fast for 21 days. You focus on one organ system every seven days. It allows for more time to work on each system over a longer period of time.

What was the driving force behind this protocol?

Now the driving force behind this detox protocol is healing and regeneration. This came on the heels of my own battle with toxic buildup, fatigue and small Polycystic growths in my uterus. These growths caused severe pain and made it difficult to functioning on most days. It was a bit strange because at that time I was fully immersed in a 100% raw vegan lifestyle. I thought it was strange But did not realize that such a strict raw vegan lifestyle was like an ultimate cleansing process. The intake of such dense and clean nutrients actually caused my body to push out the infection.

Listen to t]the accompanying podcast Episode 7 – Reset Your Mind Detox for more on my healing journey and what brought me to the development of such a beneficial and effective detox protocol.

Raw Food on a Budget

This is our raw vegan version of Pizza

A Raw food vegan lifestyle can be accomplished even if you are on a budget. It can be expensive if you try to maintain a raw life that focuses on gourmet food prep. Food prep which includes such thing as as calorie-dense pies, cakes, and treats, which many unconsciously indulge in. To be successful with the transition to a raw vegan life on a budget, you have to identify the purpose of your transition and your health goals.

Purpose driven change

Consider recreating yourself by looking at the solutions and lifestyle that are suitable for your circumference. Let this drive your focus. Nia is purpose, it is a necessary part of your success. First identify what level of raw food life style is for you; high raw, 50%, or 100%. Next consider how to include raw foods. TrY raw foods for three days out of the week, and then four days of cooked food. This method however, may prove to be a slower way to achieve your health goals. These goals and considerations will drive many of the decisions you make about what to purchase, prepare, and eat.

Staple supplements

On a budget, you want to identify the top 3-5 ( depending on budget) superfood supplements that you are willing to pay for no matter what. Take advantage of in-store sales, holiday sales from websites such as Sunfoods.com, vitacosts, Mountain Rose Herbs, and even Amazon. However also consider local NYC stores such as Ujamma Health food stores, Sacred Vibes Apothecary of Brooklyn and Zola’s Original Herbal Remedies of Queens.

Best Practices:

  • You strategically buy fruits and vegetables in season from large scale farmers markets or fresh local markets. You save lots of money by buying fresh local produce and can also score affordable organic produce. Or you can join a food coop or CSA near you. ( https://www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets)
  • Purchasing from local farmers’ markets provides several advantages; access to locally grown and less expensive produce of high nutritional value and quality. Farmers’ markets carry local produce with a short travel time from farm to table. Shorter travel time means produce is picked at its ripest.
  • Consider coupling your local purchases with fresh food delivery. Look for companies that pride themselves on reducing food waste. They provide access to fresh organic produce that may be ugly or unfit in appearance fro the regular market. (Blog.misfitmarket.com)
  • Plan your meals to ensure that you buy greens that you use throughout the week in a variety of different dishes with different flavors. The key is to plan with variety in mind. Several meal planner apps are available to support your journey choose one and stick with it.
  • Use high-quality produce because those have high nutrient content. These provide the body with more enzymes and nutrients therefore you will find yourself eating less.
  • Nuts and seeds can be costly. However, sunflower seeds are highly nutritious and are also lower in fat content than most nuts and seeds. It is important to soak them to ensure full digestibility and assimilation by the body. Sprout nuts and seeds because the nutrient content increases. They are versatile and can be used for sauces, pate, burgers, spreads, etc.
